The goal of this site is to inform K-12 social studies educators about available social studies resources and Arkansas Department of Education updates to benefit you and your students.
What’s New?
WHAT: AR HISTORY summer seminar opportunity
WHO: Butler Center/CALS
FOR: secondary social studies teachers
WHEN: June 12-14
- Funded by the Arkansas Humanities Council, the seminar will provide two nights of lodging plus meals in Central Arkansas, tours of central Arkansas museums, and a day trip to the Delta.
- The seminar will focus on content associated with Civil Rights issues based on essential questions regarding the Emancipation Proclamation, the Freedom Trail, the Southern Tenant Farmers Union, Jim Crow, Desegregation of Central High, Sundowner Towns, and Civil Rights Legislation. Additionally, attendees will participate in a lecture about the Civil War in Arkansas.
- Presenters will provide history content and curriculum guidelines. The Literacy Design Collaborative model for instruction will be utilized. Attendees will receive resources for use in classroom instruction. Attendees will be expected to provide resource sharing ideas for use on the Arkansas History Hub.

Street Law, Inc. and the Supreme Court Historical Society will sponsor two sessions of the annual Supreme Court Summer Institute, June 13-18 and June 20-25, 2013. The Institute is open to secondary level social studies teachers & supervisors.
